Job Title: Staff Accountant

 

Office location of position:  Grand Island or Kearney

 

Position Reports to: Tax and Audit Department Leads

 

Position Summary:

Accountants work under direct supervision of the in-charge but are delegated certain responsibilities for planning and supervision.  Accountants are expected to review and complete their work in a timely and accurate manner.  Accountant should continue to show initiative in obtaining the types of assignments and special projects that will further increase their technical skills.  Direct contact with clients will be done under the supervision of in-charge. They should fully understand the client’s business and also offer suggestions to in-charge for improving the efficiency of the client’s accounting functions.

 

Accountants are expected to accomplish progress on goals from their respective career plans and are expected to be building solid supervisory, as well as, engagement management skills. Accountants are expected to be fulfilling all criteria exhibited in respective job description

 

Anticipated time allocation:

70% of time is chargeable client work

30% of your time will be developing your technical accounting skills through on-the-job training, continuing education, and other administrative tasks

 

 

Primary duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in preparing monthly and yearly attest engagements.
  • Develop technical knowledge to perform responsibilities of specific audit engagements assigned
  • Assisting shareholders and managers in developing additional accounting services for current clients
  • Developing both verbal and written communication skills
  • Developing research skills
  • Proficiency in attest standards and pronouncements
  • General knowledge of sales tax and payroll tax regulations
  • General knowledge of corporate, individual, partnership & other tax returns
  • General understanding of basic income tax laws and regulations
  • Display proficient knowledge of general office software and attest specific software.
  • Adhere to company vision, mission, and values while representing oneself as a model for other team members to follow.
  • Begin developing an area of expertise
  • Participating in professional staff recruiting
  • Have a general knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and opinions on attest matters

 

Other Functions

 

  1. Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by managers and shareholders.
  2. Participates in firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.
  3. Attend continuing education courses in accordance with firm policies and Nebraska Board of Public Accountancy requirements.

 

Education

Minimum of four year degree in Business Administration (or similar field) with a major in accounting or a minimum number of accounting courses for such major required.

Experience

Previous accounting experience is preferred, but not required, willing to train the right candidate

CPA certificate is not required; however, this individual is expected to progress professionally towards obtaining a CPA certificate
